BACK FROM JAPAN – Report Part 2: Shoppping in Akihabara on Christmas Eve

Akiba Station under constructions!

It has been 2 years since i was in Akihabara… I feel that, there’s quite a lot of changes, yet not much changes here… Why? The biggest change are still the constrution of the Station. Two years ago, the exit of Dengeki Street is right in front of Radio kaikan, and now, it no longer is there anymore, and splited into north and south exit. This entry is lengthy, so if you are interested, please continue.

It was Christmas Eve, days after imas christmas party. Me and Inakiken went to Akiba and meet with my Japanese friend – Aniki. I knew Aniki from Skype. It was about 12PM, we dated him to meet in front of Radio kaikan. Due to the early time we reach Akiba, we decided to go shopping first. When we was about to take a rest after shopping at Gamers Lv7, my phone rang. Oh, it was Aniki’s call! As Aniki is staying at Saitama, it should be taking him some time to reach here… Well, we have to move now. So, once i went down, i called him again. His phone rang, and he saw i am calling, and he walked towards me and talked to me.

Matsuya... Your Best Friend in Japan (tabun)
Matsuya… You best friend in Japan (Tabun xD)

Japanese is full of passions with Foreigners~ (at least most of the Japanese i met is like this). But this does not means that there is no idiots or jackass in japan = = Jackass are all over the world.
The time we met is 12pm, lunch time! So, we decided to take lunch together. In Akiba, basically… What we had eaten is Matsuya, Fuji Soba, and Yoshinoya xDD. So, Aniki suggested us to try at one of the Maid Cafe! Since this is a good chance for us to see how a real maid cafe looks like, we decided to try it out.

There is TONS of maid cafe in Akiba. Which one to go is a good question… At this time, we saw some maids are advertising their own Cafe, so we walked up and asked. After confirming that is a normal maid cafe, we move forwards. Don’t ask me what do i mean of normal maid cafe, if you don’t know, please remain. Or else, your life will be endangered.

The maid cafe is a little bit far from the place we were in, so the maid lead us to the shoplet. The name is Popopure. We chat with the maid too. She thought we are Japanese at the beginning. After she knew that we are from Malaysia, she felt quite shock that we can speak Japanese.

After a few minutes of walk, we reach our destination~ The location is somewhere near Cospa and Hobby Station. Maids line both side of the entrance and welcomed us. The design of the shop is beautiful, simple, but yet with some high class feel. Compare to Singapore, it’s a big difference (If you had been to any of maid cafe in singapore…)

Its time for us to order dishes~ hmmm… The list in the menu is not too much, and the price is… Well, not very expensive, it might because that we used to Matsuya’s price (oi….). A set of lunch with drinks are below 2000 yen, around RM80 or SGD 38. When i was thinking what to eat, Inakiken said: “Yahhari, maid Cafe is still Omrice!” And Aniki aggreed with him! (Sorry i am not familiar with this kind of stuff….) After deciding our dishes, we ordered our food. Interesting part is, the maid took our orders in kneeling position. Well, i feel a bit weird though. So, Inaki and Aniki ordered Omrice, i ordered a dishes similar to our fried rice with shrimps. Another friend had ordered a curry rice.

While waiting our food delivered, we continue our chatting with Aniki. He is a doujin illustrator. He had joined some commercial productions, especially with Gainax. Recently, he joined with a comic, which is “Phantom ~ Requiem for the phantom~” Vol.2. As a doujin illustrator, he gave me some of his creations and works, Thank you so much!

So… Here comes our dishes~

Yeah, Writing on the omrice~ haha.

Please allow me to introduce some special features of this maid cafe. After our dishes is delivered, Maids will ask us to do a simple action with her, that is… ” Oishikunatte~ moe moe~ Kyun!”. LOL! The K-On virus is still very powerful even in Japan now xD. Its a little embarassing, well, everyone is doing that xD.And also, they have their own original animation which you can also after-record with maids and buy the DVD to keep as a souvenior. Due to our limited cash in hand, we had to skip this. As for the food, it is not that bad, but not that delicious too, just normal… And Thanks Aniki for this lunch.

After lunch, we move forward to continue our shopping tour. Although Aniki is not that familiar with the whole Akiba, he knew some of the great shops here, which selling cheap goods, and cheap second hand goods. For example, Melon Books. This is a great book shop with lots of choices. It has what they should have (including those shouldn’t be included one, lol).

Aniki, thank you~ We shall meet again sometime in January again.

Oh it is late now… So, time to say goodbye with Aniki. Thank you very much Aniki, we shall meet again sometime in January!

Afterwards, i continue to stay in Akiba, and head to Card Kingdom to meet tencho – Mr. Ikeda. As he is a busy guy, he is not very free recently actually. He spared some time to come to meet with me, Thank you very much m(_ _)m. When i saw him, he dragged with his luggages, oops, looks like he just come back from somewhere far… Although i had brought my deck, the shoplet in Akiba is his smallest branch, so… We got no space to play… Well we should play next time we meet! Hopefully it could be taken into video and put it on youtube.

Ikeda Tencho had introduced me with his shop, examples like how they sell single cards, how is the decoration and why to decorate in that way. It doesn’t looks impressing, but it is practical idea to do so. “Although he looks old, his heart is as young as you guys~” By Mr. Kurokawa

Ikeda Tencho also told me, although the shop in Akiba is smallest among his branches, but the most income is from here. Inside Akiba there’s lots of competitors, it is not easy to survive in such environment.

Well, here’s the end of the day. I will update more in a later on time.
